Welcome to Birker Gardens
Birker Gardens is a 6 acre farm located about 5 miles west of Urbana, Iowa. We started the garden in 2009, running a CSA as well as selling to grocery stores and at farmers markets.
In the fall of 2010 we put up a high tunnel that is similar to a green house but has no heat other than solar and everything is grown in the ground. It will help us get vegetables growing earlier in spring as well as extending harvest later in the year. 2013 will be our third season running a CSA and are looking forward to making it a big success with the help of our members.
We sell sweet corn to local grocery stores, our CSA members, at farmers market, and to people who like to freeze it to enjoy later on.
We grow many different kinds of produce as well as heirloom varieties. We like to try new veggies and sometimes are surprised at how well received they are.
Most of our fruit trees we destroyed by the wind storm of 2011 but in 2012 we added apple trees, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries.
In the fall of 2012 we put up a greenhouse to allow us to start our own seeds and try new varieties of veggies.
